Reporting to the Dean, Innovation, and collaborating with staff within the Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support, the Researcher, Sustainable Development Goals and Sustainability within Indigenous Knowing and Doing will work with faculty and staff across the Academic Division to help develop and initiate an interdisciplinary and transcultural approach to sustainability education and integration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at Sheridan. The incumbent will work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders in the research and development of presentations and reports on transcultural approaches and practices within sustainability education and practice. An integral part of the work will be to help ensure that faculty members and staff have access to reports and group learning opportunities that recognize sustainability and interdisciplinarity as key concepts and practices within Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. This work will support consideration of a model for sustainability within teaching and learning at Sheridan based on Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, Western approaches (e.g., Sustainable Development Goals), and other complementary transcultural approaches. It is intended as part of on-going resourced work that will address sustainability as being based on distinct approaches with their own integrity. The research will help inform Sheridan’s path forward for implementation of sustainability education and interdisciplinary problem-based learning that addresses real-world social, environmental and economic challenges based on social justice.
