Position: Landscape Gardener

Salary: $34.62 per hour

Job Responsibilities
- Work with clients to provide landscaping ideas and customize plans based on their preferences, site details, and the climate in lower mainland region.
- Manage landscaping projects, including tasks like preparing the ground, grading, fertilizing, seeding, sodding, and transplanting plants. Ensure all activities are suited to local weather conditions.
- Keep residential and commercial landscapes healthy and looking great, especially considering the region’s wet climate and mild winters.
- Use the right gardening tools, seed mixes, and fertilizers based on the type of soil and lawn location, especially in areas that tend to be damp or waterlogged.
- Select and plant shrubs, trees, and flowers based on what the client likes and what works best for the local climate, focusing on plants that can handle rain and shade.
- Identify and treat pests and plant diseases using eco-friendly products, keeping in mind the common issues that arise due to the wet weather.
- Help design and install garden features like paths, patios, water features, and rockeries, making sure proper drainage is in place.
- Regularly check landscaping tools and equipment, ensuring they remain in good condition, especially during the wet season when they are more likely to get damaged.
- Implement erosion control measures for sloped areas and manage water drainage during rainy periods to prevent waterlogging and soil erosion.
- Provide snow and ice management services during winter, including clearing snow, de-icing paths, and protecting plants from frost.
- Adapt watering schedules in the dry summer months to follow local water restrictions while keeping plants healthy.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in landscaping, gardening, or a related field.
- Formal education or certification in landscaping, horticulture, or a related discipline would be an asset.
- Strong understanding of plant care, soil conditions, pest management, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment or materials as needed.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and adapt.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with clients, team members, and supervisors.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
