You will manage essential HR functions such as the full recruitment and selection cycle, onboarding, interpretation of employment legislation and providing advice to senior leadership. You will report directly to the President, to oversee extensive HR services, including employee relations, performance management, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The Human Resources Generalist is integral to the growth and sustainability of Knight Signs, contributing directly to our operational success and continuity by shaping and maintaining a work environment that promotes employee satisfaction and retention. Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Manage local recruitment and selection processes, including updating position descriptions, preparing job postings and advertisements, reviewing resumes, and contacting potential applicants for interviews.
  • Participate in selection boards to evaluate candidates, conduct reference checks, notify applicants about the results, and make verbal and written job offers.
  • Plan and conduct the employee orientation process to foster new hire success and promote a positive attitude toward company goals and culture.
  • Consult with departmental managers to identify opportunities for improvement, evolving the onboarding process and new hire training programs.
  • Manage all HR tasks including new hire setups, employee changes, and terminations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Assist management with employee disciplinary issues, layoffs, terminations, and necessary documentation.
  • Provide guidance and support on all HR policies and procedures, maintaining knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Partner with management to conduct proactive communications and engagement initiatives to enhance the employee experience.
  • Coordinate the delivery of training programs, schedule training sessions with internal or external resources, and maintain records of training and certifications for all employees.
  • Assist in managing personnel aspects of safety audits and policies and participate in health and safety committees.
  • Organize and administer the employee consultations and grievance procedures, providing advice on employment requirements, terms, and conditions, and determining eligibility.
  • Manage various HR programs, provide employee assistance, and recognize employees, as well as other duties as requested.

 

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Post secondary education in personnel management (e.g., business administration, industrial relations, commerce) or completion of a professional development program in personnel administration or 3+ years' experience in a similar role or an equivalent combination thereof.
  • Proven track record of handling employee relations and employment law.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively partnering with employees and management.
  • Proficient in using HR software and systems, with a strong understanding of data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with attention to detail, a self motivated and goal oriented.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing situations.

 

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, and best practices in human resources.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and procedures.

 

Abilities

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Capable of fostering a positive work environment and encouraging a culture aligned with company values.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and support employees and management through changes and organizational development.

 

Certifications

  • CPHR candidate, or working towards, is an asset but not mandatory.
