The Opportunity:
BluMetric (BLM) is currently seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and reliable full time Junior Environmental Scientist, geoscientist in training or engineer in training for our Toronto location. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and technical skills, knowledge of relevant regulations, and writing abilities. They will be expected to perform a number of tasks that will include the completion of field investigation activities and may include the execution and management of environmental site assessments, site characterization, proposal and technical report preparation, data analysis and management using MS Excel and Access, in addition to supervising the associated field activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary project team in both the field and office setting to meet project objectives.
- Implementation, and execution of field programs including but not limited to site assessments, site characterization, site monitoring, building materials assessment, environmental drilling oversight, air quality assessment, spill response and management, soil, surface water and groundwater monitoring/sampling.
- Abatement oversight and remediation oversight.
- Field logs preparation, Technical report writing.
- Data management and interpretation.
Key Qualifications, Education, and Skills:
- The ideal candidate will have a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences/Environmental Sciences or a B.A.Sc . B.Eng. in civil/environmental/geological engineering. Eligibility to become a P.Geo. or P.Eng. will be considered an asset.
- Experience in or familiarity with environmental site assessments (Phase I, II) and the characterization of soils, surface water and groundwater.
- Knowledge of relevant Provincial and Federal environmental guidelines and regulations.
- 1 to 4 years of relevant work experience to support engineering and environmental geosciences projects for industrial, private, and government clients, preferably in consulting.
- Knowledge of geology, physical and chemical hydrogeology principles, including contaminated site investigations, delineation and remediation.
- Experience should include surface water and groundwater monitoring and sampling procedures, borehole drilling and monitoring well installation, logging of field samples, and the preparation of borehole logs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The ability to write professional technical reports is paramount.
- Ability to work independently both in the office and in the field (typically 20% office and 80% fieldwork to start).
- Positive attitude, teamwork and ability to problem-solve is essential.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
- Ability to travel broadly with overnight trips, and flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
- Ability to support projects in northern Ontario and Canda if required.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to work in both English and French would be an asset.
