Programs Assistant (2 positions)

Wage: $19.00 per hour

Full time:   35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, availability required for some Saturdays

Temporary 8-week position, summer job through the Canada Summer Jobs Program,

NOTEThis position is provided in partnership with Canada Summer Jobs. Eligible applicants MUST:

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 30 years at the start of their employment at Archway;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, immigrant, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are NOT eligible.  Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

 

The Canada Summer Jobs program objectives are to:

-          provide quality experiences for youth;

-          respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers to employment, i.e., youth who are early leavers of high school, not in employment, education or training; black and other racialized youth; youth with disabilities; Indigenous youth; and

-          provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills. 

 

Job Summary:

The Canada Summer Jobs Programs Assistant, Food Bank, provides assistance to Program Coordinators and Program Leads with volunteer engagement, recovering food, assisting the Bulk Buy program, performing intake services with new clients, and supporting food distribution activities for Food Bank operations, events, and other Archway events.

   

Your Role:

Archway’s Programs Assistant with the Food Bank contributes by:

  • Supporting the Bulk Buy program to engage volunteers once a month to pack bags for the program.
  • Greeting members and providing their produce upon arrival.
  • Assisting the Fresh Food Recovery Coordinator to safely handle, weigh, sort, and label recovered food for distribution.
  • Assisting the Fresh Food Recovery Coordinator in assessing and accepting donations.
  • Performing intake services food distribution programs and events, collecting client information, opening client files, and entering client information into the client database.
  • Supporting the Starfish Coordinator in distributing bi-weekly food hampers.
  • Conducting client satisfaction surveys for the Food Bank.

This position is a great fit for someone who understands the barriers and challenges faced by vulnerable populations, and who has great relationship building skills to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.

Our Offer

  • A full-time position at 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with availability for some Saturdays.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Diploma in Human Services or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • Experience working in program coordination.
  • Experience working in a position that addresses food security issues is an asset.
  • Experience leading and managing volunteers is an asset.

 

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Competency with computers; able to use Microsoft Office365.
  • Ability to use virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex.
  • Ability to switch tasks as the position may experience frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to drive and have access to the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Good relationship building and networking skills; able to build rapport with clients, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Cultural competence to work well with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Record.
  • First Aid certification is a condition of employment.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
  • Eligibility to meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements of being between 16 to 30 years of age; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act for the duration of the employment; have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
