Job Summary:

The Community Living Support Worker is responsible to assist children and youth aged 8-18 years with diverse abilities (diagnosis of developmental disability or autism) participate in social and recreational activities within the STAR program and their community. This position includes connecting the individuals served to community resources and providing a variety of social and recreation activities within a group setting with the view of helping each person served strive for further independence, inclusion, and improved quality of life.

Your Role:

Archway’s Community Living Child and Youth Support Worker with the STAR Program contributes by:

  • Engaging in one-to-one support with each person to develop an Individual Service Plan which is reflective of their personal goals, to be reviewed regularly.
  • Working collaboratively with the individuals and their group, assisting them to reach their goals, reviewing and evaluating their progress, and adjusting their individual service plan, as required.
  • Identifying and offering social, recreational and skill building opportunities that are reflective of each individual and their group’s interests; providing support, guidance, and instruction to facilitate participation.
  • Identifying and accessing community resources that meet each individual’s needs; ensuring all activities are delivered in accordance with the philosophies of Archway and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD)
    • Providing personalized care to individuals in a dignified manner.
    • Accompanying and/or transporting individuals to activities.
    • Maintaining daily progress notes and other documentation, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.

This position is a great fit for someone who has great interpersonal helping skills, good communication skills, excellent relationship building and networking skills, and is able to build rapport with the individuals, families/caregivers,  community partners, and team members.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Diploma in human services, OR currently studying for a diploma in human services, OR equivalent education and experience.
  • Work experience supporting persons with diverse abilities.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Record.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is a condition of employment.
  • Ability to work on site, and meet people in person.
  • The ability to drive an Agency vehicle.
  • Ability to use virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Cisco WebEx.
  • Excellent organization, time, and general management skills.
  • Well developed interpersonal helping skills, and good communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship building and networking skills, and ability to build rapport with individuals, families/caregivers, and team members.
