Sunrise Poultry Processors Ltd., the largest individual chicken processing plant in Western Canada is currently looking for a Poultry Worker – Live side, Halal sticker to join our assembly line team for night shifts. We’re looking for a dedicated individual who always shows up for work on time and thrives in a team-oriented environment. Night shifts are available from 9:30pm to 6:00am, Sunday night to Thursday night. It is a unionized environment.

Wages                               : $21.53 to start (raise every 6 months; top rate $26.72 after 3 years)

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

• Great attention to detail
• Good hand-eye coordination skills
• Physically demanding as it is repetitious of manual dexterity
• Capable of standing for extended periods

Specific Skills and Responsibilities

• Cut meat and poultry into specific cuts for institutional, commercial, or other wholesale use
• Recognize birds exiting the stunner that must be cut or decapitated per requirements; perform ritual cut for Halal slaughter
• Able to consistently ensure all birds are properly cut and bled prior to any processing
• Make minor adjustments as required to the automated machinery and adjacent slitter equipment
• Handle poultry in humane manner
• Set live product in shackle line
• Maintain required line speed
• Ensure work area is kept clean and compliant with all food safety and animal welfare standards

Requirements

• Candidates must be male, Muslim, certified with IFANCC, and attend Friday prayers
• Successful completion of Humane handling training related to stunning and slitting of birds at slaughter
• High dexterity required to accurately cut the birds neck and ensure sufficient bleeding or decapitation if required
• Able to work in a refrigerated environment
• Consistent commitment to working safely and animal welfare
• Able to accurately work at production line speed
• Good communication skills in spoken and written English
• Mechanical knowledge of automated machinery is an asset
• History of good attendance and reliability
• No restrictions preventing the ability to wear required PPE for this role, including N95 mask, eye goggles, or any other PPE that may be required due to workplace conditions
